We've signed Self Defense Family, "Have You Considered Punk Music" out 6/29, pre-orders available now.

RFC is excited to announce that they've signed sprawling cult independent band Self Defense Family. The band will release their debut full length for the label, titled Have You Considered Punk Music on June 29, 2018. Pre-orders for the album is currently available and Self Defense Family will tour the US with Sannhet this June (all tour dates below).

On their debut ralbum, vocalist Patrick Kindlon asks the listener to take a close look alongside him at the bottomless drive to create that he's spent his life exploring. "It’s about feeling very intensely about a thing you’re becoming increasingly aware the rest of the world doesn’t give a shit about,” says Kindlon. “It’s like how people feel about their cats: they love their cat, but you don’t give a shit about their cat.”

Today the band released the forthcoming record's title track alongside a podcast where vocalist Patrick Kindlon and guitarist Andrew Duggan do a deep dive into the making of and meaning behind the song. They also released a video for the track that can be seen here.

While the video and the track may at first seem incongruous, Kindlon explains that the parallels of owning a small business and making punk music aren't as far apart as one might think. He explains:

"We've never had the wherewithal to operate like a business. I think we got a band credit card a couple months ago, and I have no idea where it is currently. But since we started I've admired the bands that saw themselves as artists AND small business owners. Both require the strength to admit most people will never care the way you care. I can't have a boss. It's a personality defect; I recognize that. But there's a lotta people like me out here. I thought the video for our first single off Have You Considered Punk Music was a good space to highlight a kindred spirit."

Fury joins RFC - new album this fall + spring tour w/ Power Trip + Sheer Mag

We are excited to announce the latest addition to our roster - Orange County's genre-bending hardcore band Fury. Since 2013, the band have released multiple tapes, an EP and their critically acclaimed debut full-length Paramount in 2016. Jason Heller described the LP on Pitchfork as "reimagining one of hardcore's more vital, specific sub-genres as something bigger and universal."

Fury will spend this spring on the road in North American supporting Power Trip and Sheer Mag before heading over to Europe this summer to support Turnstile (all tour dates below). Expect to hear more from the band this fall as they'll spend the remainder of the summer wrapping recording sessions on their RFC debut.

The debut LP from Boston's Fiddlehead is out now! Springtime and Blind is an exploration of grief - both introspective and through the insight of others. Following the release of their Out of the Bloom EP on Lockin Out Records, Fiddlehead have created a debut LP that shares an anguishing, relatable story of love and loss through the catharsis of spirited, loud indie rock. Consisting of guitarist Alex Henery (also of Basement), vocalist Patrick Flynn and drummer Shawn Costa (both of Have Heart), they explore musical styles different from their other projects while bringing a familiar energetic and emotional core to the collaboration.

Springtime and Blind stemmed from Flynn's loss of his father. On the album he looks at how his mother coped with the situation - losing her spouse, her center of gravity -and writing the lyrics as an emotional catharsis for both of them. Like the pain his family experienced, “a wild grief so well hidden,” the songs on this album bury the pain of loss beneath punchy, energetic instrumentals.

Petal announes 'Magic Gone' out June 15th

On June 15th, Pennsylvania’s Petal will release ‘Magic Gone’, a 10-song declaration of personal liberation and a look into the mind and soul of singer/songwriter Kiley Lotz.

"’Magic Gone’ is the physical and sonic representation of me fighting for my right not only to survive but live all while coming to terms with encroaching adulthood,” says Lotz. “I was a closeted queer person struggling with chronic mental health disorders; terrified that if I tried to deal with these two major issues in my life I would lose everyone and everything I loved. Coming out was the beginning of a long and continuing process of self-actualization, of taking a hard look at myself and the problems I had and how I could fix them. This record is the result of being the most honest I have ever been in my life, and the constant battle of overcoming the thought that, “maybe if I were just someone else completely, everything would be better.” ‘Magic Gone’ is about letting go of the anger induced by all the paranoia, anxiety, guilt and pain, and embracing the magic of your own endurance and hoping for the best."

Petal will celebrate the release of ‘Magic Gone’ by embarking on a 20+ date tour this summer with Camp Cope, kicking off June 21 in Philadelphia and swinging through most major markets including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco and Washington DC. Full dates below.

The New York Times has celebrated Lotz as one of the “women making the best rock music today,” also complimenting the complicated heart in the center of her music, adding that “the ache at the core of Petal’s music is its signature, rendered in a manner both searing and confident.” Pitchfork also has praised Petal for creating “beautifully aching songs that are illuminated by clear, direct voice and poetic lyrics,” while SPIN said that the deeply personal nature of Lotz’s songwriting “read[s] like vignettes, small windows peering into small slices of a lengthy timeline.”
